Lady Gaga postpones European leg of world tour due to severe physical pain

Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Lady Gaga has postponed the European leg of her Joanne World Tour until 2018 due to suffering from "severe physical pain."

The pop star was set to kick off her European performances on Sept. 21 in Barcelona and wrap it up Oct. 28 in Germany. Gaga would have made stops in Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Britain, Denmark and Sweden.

"Lady Gaga is suffering from severe physical pain that has impacted her ability to perform," Live Nation noted in a statement. "She remains under the care of expert medical professionals who recommended the postponement earlier today. Lady Gaga is devastated that she has to wait to perform for her European fans. She plans to spend the next seven weeks proactively working with her doctors to heal from this and past traumas that still affect her daily life, and result in severe physical pain in her body. She wants to give her fans the best version of the show she built for them when the tour resumes."

"Lady Gaga sends her love to all her fans across Europe and thanks them for their support and understanding," the statement continued. The second part of Gaga's North American leg is still scheduled to resume in November.

On Instagram, the 31-year-old commented on the matter and vowed to get to the bottom of her health issues.

"I have always been honest about my physical and mental health struggles," she wrote as part of a lengthy post alongside a photo of herself praying. "It is complicated and difficult to explain, and we are trying to figure it out. As I get stronger and when I feel ready, I will tell my story in more depth, and plan to take this on strongly so I can not only raise awareness, but expand research for others who suffer as I do, so I can help make a difference."

Recently, Gaga announced that she was hospitalized and canceled her Friday show that was set to take place in Brazil. "I was taken to the hospital its not simply hip pain or wear & tear from tour, I'm in severe pain. I'm in good hands w/ the very best doctors," she tweeted at the time.

The postponement and cancellations come after Gaga announced that her upcoming Netflix documentary Five Foot Two will detail her battle with chronic illness fibromyalgia which can cause extreme fatigue, sleep disturbances, depression and headaches. A trailer released for the documentary featured Gaga dealing with health issues and visiting a doctor's office.
