Deer makes surprise visit to Mississippi school

CLINTON, Miss., Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Students at a private school in Mississippi got a surprise visit on Tuesday when a deer came crashing through a glass window.

The deer appeared in the parking lot of Clinton Christian Academy at about 7:45 a.m. where it hopped on top of a car before bursting into the school through a window into a storage closet, according to WAPT.

"They got on the intercom [and] said, 'No one is in the building, but there is a wild animal in the building, so we all need to get in our classrooms and we'll go on lockdown,'" student Cami Albritton said.

Authorities arrived at the school to maneuver the deer out of the building and into the nearby woods, The Clarion-Ledger reported.

The process took about 30 minutes and Clinton Christian Academy Headmaster Phillip H. Broome said no one in the school was injured.

"Fortunately everyone was situated where they were supposed to be. We evacuated the hallways," he said.

The deer was seen bleeding after crashing through the window, but Mississippi Wildlife officials did not believe it suffered any severe injuries.
