Watch: CBS broadcaster Verne Lundquist hit in face with basketball

March 20 (UPI) -- You could feel this one from home.

Before the Notre Dame versus West Virginia game Saturday, CBS broadcasting legend Verne Lundquist was sitting next to Jim Spanarkel. A basketball skipped their direction and hopped over the scorer's table, drilling Lundquist in the face.

The basketball came from a warm-up shot by West Virginia's Teyvon Meyers.

The 76-year-old is due to retire this season. He said his goodbyes to the college football platform last year.

"Oh, that hurts on replay," Lundquist said on the broadcast. "It's a tougher sport than I thought. That was Tavon Meyers, No. 0 at the time. I got him back. I went out and tore his jersey so he had to change to No. 22...You gotta come tough and ready with these guys."

West Virginia beat Notre Dame 83-71.
