Showtime renews The Affair for a fourth season

PASADENA, Calif., Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Showtime says it has ordered a fourth season of its Long Island-set drama The Affair.

Starring Dominic West, Ruth Wilson, Maura Tierney and Joshua Jackson, the series will wrap up its third season on Jan. 29. Season 3 guest stars include Jennifer Esposito and Brendan Fraser.

David Nevins, president and chief executive officer of Showtime Networks Inc., announced the show's renewal this week at the 2017 Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour in Pasadena.

"The Affair explores the emotional and psychological effects of an affair that destroyed two marriages, and the crime that brings these individuals back together, as told through multiple perspectives," a press release noted. "Season 3 picked up three years after Noah's shocking admission of guilt at the murder trial of Scott Lockhart. Noah attempts to restart his life, but the damage wrought by his past decisions has made him a ghost of his former self. Alison has been raising daughter Joanie alongside Cole and Luisa in Montauk, but Alison's past continues to rear its ugly head as Cole and Luisa attempt to build their own future. For Helen, life appears to continue on, but just below the surface of a successful business and a bustling home lies uncertainty with her boyfriend Vik, instability amongst her children, and an unshakeable feeling of guilt."
